If this is your first visit to Farced, please skip the next two paragraphs (or just look at the sidebar for links).

Hi Farced fans and readers (if you’re still reading?). It’s been 9 years since I decided to start a blog, then did my first podcast of a DJ set at Pianos with a voice intro. That podcast was taken off the site and not included in my 5 year FARCED retrospective of every mixtape & mix being mixed into a single MP3 (remember the days when you could download zip files of my mixes?). The other day while recording a sort of Manifesto for the “[Haitian] Legacy Project” I’ve talked about for YEARS of doing, which has slowly materialized into something more tangible, I fell in love with my voice. I realized my voice had power, I realized that the very thing I had been running away from my whole adult life was in essence the very part of my legacy. Then I remembered 2006 and posting that podcast and not being comfortable with my voice. Funnily enough a few weeks before Farced’s 9th birthday (9/22), I decided I’d finally post that podcast, voice and all.

I suppose getting comfortable with my voice recorded was due in part to covering on the Minimal Wave show on East Village Radio a few years back. I am so grateful for Anastazja when I signed up to do my show on Berlin Community Radio for suggesting I name the show FARCED (I was kind of just looking to do it under something else), because “it IS your brand.” So in effect I’ve been simultaneously tending to what was always subconsciously something I wanted to do: use my voice with music, I guess radio DEEJAY, like my Dad (or podcast since this is the internet). I’ve got so many new ideas for Farced (I’ve had many over the years, but the last 3 years of my life have been chaos, ever hear of Saturn Return?). I’ve talked about a site revamp for like 4 years now, it is going to happen. The Farced mixtapes that people email me asking for copies are finally going to be produced in limited editions and sold at some local stores in NYC (and maybe elsewhere in the U.S. of A & Europe). And podcasts, I will try as much as I can to make this a thing since I find myself recording more voice notes than writing in my journal (and clearly I’ve had an aversion to blogging). This will include so many talented & amazing individuals from all walks of life I am lucky to have in my life. So many ideas, so little energy. I will try my best for everyone that’s been bugging me to not let Farced “die.” She’s still here and is not going anywhere.

Now that I got that out of the way: Here’s what’s been going on.

  • I post sort of regularly to the Farced Facebook and Twitter. There you can see where I will be DeeJaying.
  • I have FARCED 12 shows so far on BCR which you can stream below via the Mixcloud playlist for the show since (their SONYCLOUD Soundcloud got deleted.

“Up Next” shows you all the shows in the playlist. I’d tell you my favorite shows but I’ll leave that up for you to decide (but really the last one (12), 1st, 3rd & 7th are my absolute favorites).

  • I’ve moved almost all of my mixes, mixtapes, DJ sets, etc to Mixcloud before soundcloud bites the dust (though my soundcloud is still up, for now).

  • Giroutte Records asked me to make a mix for them back in March, it’s finally up (it was Take 1 but life got BUSY so…)

  • I finally made a mix of Haitian music, another request by many people I know for years. It’s volume 1 and includes some Zouk from our French Patois sister nations of Guadeloupe & Martinique. It’s mostly synth based. There will be tons more volumes as this will go with my Legacy Project because Haitian music is so versatile and unique. Side note: I’m Haitian-American and Haitian music has been included in a lot of BCR shows and a huge part of my being. I can’t wait to finally make announcements about this project which is ultimately my life purpose. This first volume is entitled WAVE KREYOL. This mix will be posted soon!
  • I’m back home in NYC for a bit, settling my affairs (see sidebar for booking link). Getting rid of most of my coveted records to make way for more of what I am ultimately going to spend all of my time doing. Plus most of them have been in boxes for nearly 3 years now so it’s time to find them new homes. I DJ mostly with USB and laptop now, spent a chunk of time 2 years ago ripping a huge chunk of my vinyl, preparing for my escape to Europe.

That’s really it for now. I leave you with my last BCR show:

Thanks to all the supporters over the years, to anyone that has mentioned & appreciated this neglected corner of the internet, much more is coming!

In response to this past week’s viral video of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” slowed down, I decided to slow down Strawberry Switchblade’s 1985 cover  of “Jolene” in true Farced fashion:

I originally planned to play it slowed down tomorrow night while DJing with Christian of Cult of Youth but decided, hey! Why not make it go viral because it sounds much better than both originals and the pitched down version of the original. It sounds a little like NADA! era Death in June (surprise) when slowed down to 33% which I’m debating on posting.

Original Strawberry Switchblade cover:

But if you’d rather hear it live, you can just come visit us at Over The Eight tomorrow!

I have created a Twitter for dear old Farced, because sometimes I can’t just blog about one video or link. I have also exhausted my personal twitter and facebook with links (amongst other things) at the expense of looking crazy. Though one friend did inform me that I was his favorite twitterer, adding “fuq shaq.”

Jack Crank whom I mentioned in the last post, called my blog “the new jumpoff,” which effortlessly made my night. I have been waiting so long for some records from the UK, that one seller even sent me HER copy of the Hit Parade record she sold me. This is making me nervous that someone in the USPS is stealing my mail. If this paranoid thinking is indeed true, I am fucked as Anthrax sent me one of the shirts they are printing. The shirts are incorporating the cover of the retrospective cd they put out (and again, they thanked me on) which are both on sale on their site.

Here was my Easter weekend “on the go” iPod playlist which really just resulted in me playing the first on repeat probably 24 times:

Epileptics – 1970’s Have Been Made in Hong Kong
Legion of Parasites – Eroded Freedom
Antisect – The World’s Biggest Runt
Vivian Girls – Telepathic Love
Karma Sutra – It’s Our World Too
Lost Cherrees – Why Does It Have To Be A Dream?
Lost Cherrees – Real Crimes
Sleeping Dogs – (I Got My Tan In) El Salvador
The Mob – Never Understood

It was that kind of family strife filled weekend. Needless to say I spent my first Easter with my friends, saving me from enacting the joke of blasting “The Church is For Sinners” while my mother attended Easter mass. Events of late have got me thinking about this Anthrax poster I have somewhere and have been meaning to photocopy (click to enlarge):

I swear, this year is making me feel more and more like I am 18 again. Except there wasn’t really any thing really resembling anarchy in the streets of NYC then and I am also not playing Crass at The Hole with Frank (hilarious right?).

I became re-obsessed with the first song on this playlist, by the Flux of Pink Indians when they went by the Epileptics in 1979. The drumming is the best part with Penny Rimbaud drumming on this EP, though other sources claim differently, but there were THREE pressings of this EP. Blast it repeatedly, because after all “1970’s Have Been Made in Hong Kong” is barely two minutes long. I am pretty sure that this mp3 is from the 1981 re-recording with Rimbaud, but who would know in the olden days of slsk?

EDIT: The mp3 is fromthe re-recorded 1981 release.

Fmylife.com is the most amazing thing to me right this minute, featuring “everyday life’s unfortunate moments and funny stories.” Serious latepass for me, thought it’s only been around for a year. Perfect site to read when you are having a BAD, BAD day and need to feel better about life. There are many “fuck my life” moments in my life but then again I pretty much have the mantra of “never a dull moment.”

Some submissions from the site, the last two made me laugh, LOUDLY:

Today, I was tutoring kids at an elementary school. One kid messed up my hair. I said, “Why’d you do that??” He said, “I have lice, now you have lice too!” FML

Today, my mom had my girlfriend and I over. Out of the blue, she pulled out my grandmothers wedding ring and gave it to me saying I can now propose. My girlfriend started screaming and said yes. I have been seeing someone else for 3 months and was going to break up with my girlfriend tomorrow. FML

Today, my boyfriend told me he couldn’t hang out with me because he felt really sick. I went to his house anyway to surprise him with homemade soup. I walk in to his room only to find him hooking up with my sister. She can’t drive, our mom drove her there. FML

Today, I overheard my daughter compliment my mother by saying “My mom is way flabbier than you, Grandma.” When I told her later that she hurt my feelings, she told me to “man up.” She’s seven. FML

Today, I spent 300 dollars making colored flyers for my iPhone that I lost. On the flyer I wrote for whoever found it to call me and I would give a reward. I wrote the phone number of my iPhone that I lost. FML

Today, my boyfriend and I decided to try anal sex. When he was done, I turned around to see him holding a strap-on with a smile on his face and said ‘Now, do me’. FML

Today, after soccer practice, I was walking to the car with my dad. My team mates waved and said “Bye POTHEAD!” They call me that because they think my head is shaped like a pot. Of course, my dad didn’t believe me. I’m grounded now because I have an abnormally-shaped head. I’ve never smoked pot. FML

Today, I was at the beach with my buddy. Messing around, he swam up behind me and dunked me under the water. Naturally, moments later I swam behind him, grabbed both his ankles and stood up, flipping him completely, only to see him watching me from a few feet away. I flipped a 70 year old man. FML

Today, I woke up to a tap on my shoulder and had no idea where I was. I quickly discovered It was 11 am and I was still at the bar I had been drinking at the night before. My shoes were gone. FML

Today, my cat was in the bathroom when I was undressing to get into the shower. I realized that he was the only male to have seen me naked in the past two months. Then he started scratching the door for me to let him out. FML

After feeling pretty nostalgic, I logged into myspace this morning, falling upon some old “blog” posts. Found this post from a period when I stalked Strand‘s bookshelves probably three times a week. From June 07, 2006:

“This may not be of interest [to] anyone, but me. It’s more of an early morning musing.

A few weeks ago I was raving about how I wanted to have a bookplate printed for my books, bombarding poor Alita with a bunch of links. I found one and I will somehow have several printed out from the below in the future.

Need to clean my scanner. Hopefully I can get some printed on some removeable Avery labels, where can I go? Kinkos?

I tried to commision Shalimar to make one like this for me:

NO LUCK!

Friday while at strand, I saw one on a shelf, that had apparently fallen out of a book. It was printed on what looked like rice paper, I wanted to take it but with my luck, I’d probably get arrested for ‘shoplifting’ a bookplate.”

One of the many things I became obsessed with doing but never got around to. Now my books are sitting in moving boxes and I haven’t any idea WHERE the bookplate I purchased above even is, completely forgot about it. I spent so much money on books that year but am pleased to have finally bought this several weeks ago. Especially given that my best friend has been obsessed with Nadja, the person, via Breton’s depiction of her since, well forever. Finding this photo has made me want to re-read Cat’s Cradle which will only lead me to want to cite the fictional colloquialisms from the book all the time. I have met maybe two people that I could do this with. My mother sometimes reads three books a week, I however… too much on the brain! It’s amazing how much things differ from three years ago, I blame the internet! I don’t even have a “Books” category, for shame! It’s no wonder Obama told Americans to read with their children during Tuesday’s Congressional Address.

Song is John Cooper Clarke’s “It Man” from his 1980 “spoken-word” album Snap, Crackle & Bop.

This is currently my favorite thing on the internet. I got tagged on facebook to do this, so I will tag some blog folks to do the same. I love this shit and love how mine came out!

1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random… Read More”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.

5 – Post it to your blog with this text in the body and TAG the friends you want to join in.

I tag Alex, Mark, Brent, Mary-Louise, Steve, and Alana. Let’s see if any of you actually do it.

Photo from here and title of album taken from randomized quote by Timothy Leary.

The three songs attached are probably what it would sound like… though I’d probably name my band Trytophan.

The title of this entry would probably be a song title.

See more at buzzfeed.

For about 30 minutes this morning:

I thought my computer had some kind of trojan or something BUT I HAVE A MAC. Nope, Google was just broken.

You couldn’t click through to anything.
